Join Kath Temple, Goldster’s Success & Happiness Psychologist, for a six-week journey – Clearing Adverse Childhood Experiences for Health Creation.
The CDC-Kaiser ACE (Adverse Childhood Experience) study involved over 17,000 people and is one of the biggest research projects of how emotional and physical neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, violence, trauma, substance misuse, family mental health issues, parental separation and divorce, early death of a parent, the incarceration of a parent, and family dysfunction impact health and wellness later in life.
The results were staggering.
Two thirds of adults reported one or more ACEs. More than 20% reported 3 or more ACEs. As the number of ACEs increases, so does the risk of negative outcomes. Early adversity has lasting impacts. Those experiencing the toxic stress of ACEs are more at risk of: traumatic brain injury, PTSD, depression, anxiety, suicide, unintended pregnancy, complications in pregnancy, foetal death, HIV, STDs, cancer, diabetes, alcohol and drug abuse, unsafe sex, lower education, poorer occupations, low income.
ACEs affect brain development, immune systems, and emotional regulation. In turn these things impact attention, learning, choices, decision-making, and may struggle to create healthy relationships.
Preventing ACEs may reduce a great many health conditions. It is estimated that it would prevent up to 1.9 million heart disease cases, and 21 million depression cases. There is also an economic and social cost to society, to families, and to communities. Even a small reduction of just 10% in ACEs in the USA could save the country $56 billion. The figure for the UK has not been calculated.
This programme will be a mix of groupwork, and 1-1 ‘live’demos showing the impact of my strategies, tools and techniques.
