On 25 November, join Lucinda Hawksley and her Inside Story guest Phillipa Ashley, a best-selling author of uplifting romantic fiction.
After studying English at Oxford, Phillipa worked as a copywriter and journalist before writing her debut novel, Decent Exposure. Not only did it win the Romantic Novelists’ Association’s New Writers’ Award – even more thrillingly it was then turned into a film for Lifetime TV!
Phillipa Ashley’s novels have sold almost a million copies and been translated into many languages. She is also an Audible number 1 best-seller, yet it took 15 years and 25 books before she hit the Sunday Times’ Top 10 bestellers list. That novel, A Surprise Christmas Wedding, was written during the darkest days of lockdown in 2020 and it struck a chord with a public hungry for escapist fiction.
Phillipa takes her inspiration from wild and rugged landscapes, and has a special affinity with the Lake District and West Cornwall. Ironically, she lives in a Staffordshire village as far from the sea (according to Wikipedia) as it is possible to get in UK. On 25 November, Phillipa will be kicking off the Goldster Festive Season as we chat about A Surprise Christmas Wedding and her latest novel, A Special Cornish Christmas, set in the fictional Cornish estuary village of Falford.
