Goldster Inside Story explores gripping true drama through the highly-acclaimed crime thriller These Are Not Gentle People, the story of the brutal beating and death of two young men and those accused of their murders. Written by award-winning BBC Africa Correspondent, Andrew Harding, this is a courtroom drama, a profound exploration of collective guilt and individual justice, yet it reads like a fast-paced literary novel. Andrew traces the impact of one moment of collective fury on a fragile community – exposing lies, cover-ups, political meddling and betrayals, and revealing the women struggling against an entrenched culture of male violence. Andrew is one of the BBC’s most experienced foreign correspondents with postings in Moscow, Tbilisi, Singapore and Bangkok. He has been living in South Africa since 2009 covering crises and wider stories throughout the continent, such as the outbreak of Ebola and the murder trial of paralympic sprinter, Oscar Pistorius. Early in 2016, Andrew read about an incident in the Free State and decided to investigate. The result, four years later, was These Are Not Gentle People, and BBC Radio 4 series, Blood Lands. Andrew’s previous book The Mayor of Mogadishu tells the story of a young Somali man who sought refuge in London, only to return twenty years later to become a galvanizing symbol of courage amid chaos, violence and extremism.
